Set a Break-fast and Lunch Alarm

The major shift with Intermittent Fasting is that you're changing when you eat. This can take a few days to get used to because you've likely eaten at the same time roughly your entire life. But to help ease the transition, I've found setting a recurring alarm can be useful for reminding you when to eat.

Many of my clients and those following the Complete Intermittent Fasting Bundle like using the Calendar App on their phone. Setting a recurring "break-fast" and "lunch" meeting can help to remind you when you need to eat. Checkout my video above for a mini tutorial for how to set this up.

Keep a Water Glass Out

I mean literally keep a glass out where you'll see it everyday. When you first start using Intermittent Fasting, it's quite common to lose a lot of water and electrolytes. This is often a result of a decrease in the storing hormone insulin, which then releases water and electrolytes via urine.

Replacing the lost water and electrolytes is crucial to avoid electrolyte imbalances that can cause headaches or low energy levels. Having a water glass out on the counter or in a place where you'll see it everyday can help to remind you to get your hydration up! You'll also want to make sure to add electrolytes in the form of sea salt or a high quality electrolyte replacement to your water -- otherwise, it can make the electrolyte imbalance worse. You can find the details for how to use electrolytes with Intermittent Fasting in the Complete Intermittent Fasting Bundle on page 20.

Use Mint Tea

After dinner, we're usually not hungry... rather many of us get the urge to snack. This is often from a lifetime of habitual post-dinner snacking. A really useful tool to help decrease cravings while also creating a new evening routine is using mint tea. Mint tea can act as a natural appetite suppressant. Plus, it doesn't break a fast! You can sip on mint tea as your new evening, post-dinner ritual that also supports your Intermittent Fasting goals.

Don't Watch Food Shows During Your Fast

This was a mistake I made early on in my Intermittent Fasting journey. I love food shows (who doesn't?!). But watching people cook and create beautiful meals can weirdly trigger hunger and cravings even if you just ate. So clearly, watching these types of shows or YouTube videos isn't ideal when you first start your Intermittent Fasting journey.

You'll likely notice over time that cravings and hunger start to go down and that watching food shows don't trigger the urge to eat as much as it used to. But until that point, you'll want to keep any food shows to your eating window. Trust me, this one is HUGE.

Keep Learning Daily

In the beginning of your Intermittent Fasting journey, everything will seem really new and daunting. There will be terms you haven't heard, new phrases that people use and even bodily experiences that you haven't felt before. This is normal for the start of every journey. But they key is to keep learning a bit more every day to help build your confidence and your knowledge so that you can successfully incorporate Intermittent Fasting to achieve your goals.
