Is drinking a no-go when it comes to achieving a weight loss goal? It turns out that there are alcoholic drinks that are better than others when it comes to achieving a weight loss goal. Today, we're diving into the three best alcoholic drinks for weight loss.
What Is The Best Alcoholic Drink For Weight Loss?
If you're looking to achieve a weight loss (specifically a fat loss) goal, then you want to try and keep the storing hormone insulin from spiking too frequently. This can help to keep the body in a fat burning state. The food type that spikes insulin the most is sugar. So when it comes to choosing the best alcoholic drink for weight loss, it's the alcoholic drink that doesn't contain any sugar.
Can You Drink Alcohol And Still Lose Weight?
Zero sugar alcoholic drinks don't have a significantly large impact on insulin (although there are other mechanisms in which it can lead to weight gain. You can check out THIS blog post for the details.). You will certainly achieve a weight loss goal faster by greatly reducing or removing alcohol. However, that's not to say you have to completely remove alcohol in order to achieve a weight loss goal. This was evidenced back in the mid-1800's with William Banting.(1) William lost about 50 pounds while still enjoying low sugar alcoholic drinks on the daily. Granted, he was following a low starch and sugar protocol, similar to what we discuss in the Complete Intermittent Fasting Bundle programs.
If you find that even while choosing the zero sugar alcoholic drinks, you're still not losing weight, try cutting your weekly intake by half or removing alcohol altogether until you break through your weight loss plateau.

Dry Red or White Wine
Unfortunately, just opting for a "dry wine" might not actually cut it. Because alcohol regulations don't require nutrition facts to be listed on their bottles, they can add as much sugar in to buffer the flavor as they like... without you ever knowing. Even supposedly "dry" wine. To be safe, I always recommend opting for lab tested wines that are free of sugar.
I love the brand Dry Farm Wines because they lab test every bottle to ensure that there is less than 1 gram of sugar per liter of wine!
I've been using Dry Farm Wines for years and they have an incredible selection of red and white wines that get delivered straight to your door.

Regular hard alcohol, like gin, tequila and vodka, doesn't contain any added sugar. It's pretty much just pure alcohol. If you opt for hard alcohol, just make sure not to bring the sugar content up by mixing it into a cocktail. Most cocktails will have a ton of added sugar that will massively work against your weight loss goals.
You can try having a skinny margarita (tequila + lime juice), vodka soda (not tonic) or mixing your favorite alcohol with flavored sparkling water like Spindrift.
Dry Sparkling Wine
If you're looking for some bubbles, dry sparkling wine will be your best option. Other sparkling options, like beer or cider, are packed with carbohydrates that rapidly break down into sugars. Beer can range between 7-30 grams of carbohydrates per 12 ounces. Hard ciders will range between 15-17 grams of carbohydrates per 12 ounces. Dry sparkling wine on the other hand can be virtually free of sugar (assuming you're going for a Dry Farm option!). Wines from Italy and France tend to not add sugar back into their wine, so you can also opt for that route. However, if you want to be certain, check out Dry Farm Wines sparkling wine boxes HERE.*
